Members of the genus Dasysyrphus are aphidophagous but, as yet, the larva of D. pauxillus is unknown. Adults appear to be associated with conifer plantations.

Recorded from two sites in the Brecks of East Anglia by Rabarts (2011)2 and a site in Dorset by Parker (2013)3. This was a North American species that has been spreading west across Europe and its arrival in the UK had been expected.
